Risto Vuolanne is a Finnish double bass player currently based in A Coruña and Madrid, Spain.

Since 2005 he is Principal Bass player in Galician Symphony Orchestra. Before arriving in Spain he has worked in various chamber and symphony orchestras all over Europe, especially in Portugal, the Netherlands and Finland.

 

Since 2008 he has given recitals around Europe and in New York, U.S.A. As a soloist he has played Giovanni Bottesini's bass concerto No.2 and Angel of Dusk by Einojuhani Rautavaara. 

 

Parallelly to his classical work Risto composes and plays improvised music and jazz. He actively participates in the Spanish jazz life with various ensembles. Also, he is the founder of the Jazz Band of the Galician Symphony Orchestra.

Risto was born in a musical family 1973 in Pyhämaa, Finland. At the age of 13 he started studying the double bass, in Pori where he grew up. The studies lead him through Sibelius-Academy, Helsinki, to Sweden and finally to the Netherlands where he got a Master of Music degree at the Amsterdam Conservatory.

His teachers include: Tomi Pietikäinen, Lasse Lagercrantz in Finland, Niek de Groot and Maggie Urquhart in the Netherlands. Most recently he has been influenced by Rinat Ibragimov and Simo Väisänen in London.
